1. How does your role at Restore Hope help churches on mission?
As a member of our Board, I have the privilege of working closely with the staff at Restore Hope in reviewing proposals, recommendations and pouring over creative ideas that make missions a practical reality for churches. I love it! Our policies, procedures and services are not abstract qualities that deal with theoretical possibilities. I love being a part of actively assisting churches in addressing overseas transfer of funds, collection of support from donors, security concerns, sound missiological practices and the needs for networking with like-minded and like-hearted missional people across the world.
2. What qualifies you to play the role you play for Restore Hope?
I have served as a pastor in a local church since 1983. I have led numerous mission teams to Africa, Asia, Central America and Europe. I have worked closely with missiologists like Mike Stroope and Stan Parks to learn sound missiological principles. I spent one of my sabbaticals studying missions at the U.S. Center for World Mission with Ralph Winter. I also formed PRH Restore Hope back in 2006 with several other partners to assist local churches in engaging the world as strategic partners in the Great Commission.
3. If you have another job besides Restore Hope, what is your title and what do you do?
I am the pastor of First Baptist Church of Arlington, Texas.
4. What do you like to do in your spare time?
I like to spend time with my family, watch Auburn football, play golf, watch golf and talk about others who play golf.
5.What is your favorite missions quote?
“All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age” — Jesus
