In most regions of the world, individuals experience poverty as a result of factors outside of their direct control. A lack of resources, coordination, or cooperation at a community level can have terrible consequences for the members of that community. We believe that God made people to be in community – sharing life, facing adversity, solving problems, exchanging goods and services, reconciling injustices, and worshipping Him. We aim to help communities do these things well!
Here are a few of the ways we serve communities:
Community Empowerment
Communities come in different shapes and sizes and may be defined as neighborhoods, towns, ethnic groups, religious groups, and more. An inability to identify and address needs and threats, mobilize resources, coordinate plans, practice leadership with integrity and effectiveness, and establish common standards for life and justice can create or exacerbate the conditions causing extreme poverty.
Restore Hope works with community members to build their capacity for effective leadership, organization and community development. We empower communities by guiding them through processes of assessment, planning, project implementation, and evaluation. From discrete projects to multi-year development plans that aim to create opportunities and improved standards of living, we work with community leaders to foster a sustainable environment characterized by health and unity.
Water & Sanitation
Water is essential for life. Yet, an estimated 750 million people do not have access to basic water and sanitation services. The time and resources spent trying to obtain water that frequently is unsafe to drink are a burden on families already struggling to survive. Diarrhea, most often caused by contaminated water and poor sanitation, is a leading cause of death among infants and children under the age of five.
Restore Hope partners with communities to address their water and sanitation (WASH) needs through strategies such as well drilling, emergency supply delivery, latrine construction, and implementation of waste management plans.
Housing
Decent housing provides privacy, security and vital protection from the elements. However, rapid urbanization coupled with income inequality, poor city planning, and limited public resources has created inhumane living conditions for people in slums and poor neighborhoods across the globe. Restore Hope works with families meet this basic need through home renovation, repair and new construction.
